Let’s Go Down the Rabbit Hole

Dear Reader,

Welcome to my blog that I’ve created as my entry for the Cambridge University Press Bursary prize. If I was to win, this bursary will contribute towards my fees for the academic year.

However, I want this blog to be much more than just an entry for a competition. My aim of setting up this blog is with my readers in the forefront of my mind. I have been a keen reader from a very early age, and I now want to share my love and enthusiasm for Young Adult and children’s books with you. I want to encourage thoughts and opinions on current news circulating through the publishing industry and how this is shaping and affecting the future of the YA and children’s book world.

Through doing this I hope not only to comment on new novels and exciting new projects, but also to start thinking about how to reach out to modern readers and gain interest in making reading part of a young adults everyday life. I want to place a particular focus on content and marketing in this blog, in particular with the rise of the digital world how digital marketing can be used to promote children’s books. I recently completed a trailer for a piece of theatre in my undergraduate degree and was overwhelmed by how much positive response this received. I believe that this could be a powerful tool for attracting readers to new novels and am eager to explore this further.

Overall, this blog is about the next generation. A place where I can show how books can encourage them to escape, learn, and feel part of a community where literature and fiction are at the heart. Books have, and should continue to be part of children’s lives. I hope you will join me as I explore another world, Down the Rabbit Hole…
